Brad Mondo's Open Truth: Video Confessions, Interviews, and Public Statements
Before Brad Mondo (born Brad Gesimondo) commanded brand partnerships and manufactured his own haircare formulas, he was a teenager sweeping hair off the linoleum floor of his father’s Massachusetts salon. His father worked as a licensed hairdresser for decades, introducing Brad to styling shears and color bowls practically from infancy. Yet that familiarity with the styling chair did not eliminate the social isolation he felt while reconciling his creative interests with his sexual orientation during his school years.
Mondo recognized his attraction to men around age 13, a period he later described as emotionally isolating. In a deeply personal video documenting his coming out story, he recalled wrestling with the fear that revealing his identity would derail his family bonds or make him an easy target in his suburban hometown. For years, he kept his private thoughts strictly guarded. He buried himself in salon apprenticeships, editorial session styling, and early attempts at video production.
The turning point arrived when he turned 19. Exhausted by the mental burden of maintaining a double life, Mondo sat his mother down to speak plainly. Her immediate acceptance dismantled years of accumulated anxiety, giving him the emotional security to tell his father and siblings shortly afterward. When he launched his YouTube channel in 2015, he made no effort to sanitize or mask his mannerisms. By the time his "Hairdresser Reacts" format exploded in 2017, his identity was already an organic, transparent part of his public presence.
