From Philadelphia to Toronto: Jeska Peczek and Luke Schenn's Journey
Being an NHL player spouse often means learning to pack a household inside forty-eight hours. Schenn’s post-Philadelphia career became an exercise in sudden departures: brief stops with the Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, and Vancouver Canucks tested the family's logistical mettle. Peczek assumed the heavy lifting of sudden lease terminations, setting up temporary schooling, and managing cross-border pet relocations while Schenn reported straight to team morning skates.
During the 2018, 2019 season, Schenn was assigned to the American Hockey League’s San Diego Gulls before finding his footing again at the top level. The demotion represented an existential moment for his career. Teammates credited Peczek with providing the emotional bedrock that kept him motivated during bus rides in the minors, ensuring their home remained stable regardless of the postal code on the mailbox.
That perseverance paid off when Schenn earned a contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning ahead of the 2019, 2020 campaign. Moving to Florida offered sunshine and competitive stability, but it arrived right on the eve of unprecedented global disruptions to professional sports scheduling.
