Does Locking Your Cash App Card Cancel Recurring Subscriptions? What Really Gets Blocked
A common point of frustration occurs when a transaction appears pending right before you lock the card. You notice an errant charge, flip the lock switch, and assume the pending payment will bounce. It will not.
When you swipe your card at a gas pump, restaurant, or hotel, the merchant places an initial authorization hold against your funds. This hold confirms that the account is valid and reserves an estimated balance. The actual clearing stage, when the merchant submits the final batch of settled transactions, typically happens 24 to 72 hours later.
Because the authorization was approved while the card was active, network settlement rules obligate Cash App to release those funds when the merchant finalizes the settlement batch. The locked state only scrutinizes incoming authorization requests; it does not retroactively discard previously authorized obligations. If you dispute an erroneous pending charge, you must wait until the charge moves from pending to settled before Cash App's resolution center permits you to submit a formal dispute form.
