Dwight Howard Scoring Records: Did He Ever Score 84 Points?
The rumor originated in November 2022 when Howard signed with the Taoyuan Leopards of Taiwan's T1 League. Howard's arrival in East Asia became an overnight sensation. Highlights showed the three-time Defensive Player of the Year running point guard, pulling up from beyond the arc, and overpowering defenders with ease.
Capitalizing on the hype, satirical sports accounts began crafting exaggerated stat lines. One manipulated graphic formatted like an official broadcast banner claimed Howard finished a game with 84 points, 37 rebounds, 14 assists, and 9 blocks on 78% shooting.
Because overseas box scores are difficult for casual American audiences to locate quickly, the meme quickly shed its satirical context. Users reshared the numbers on Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts as verified history. Within days, search engines saw a spike in queries asking whether the Hall of Fame center had recorded the second-highest scoring game in professional basketball history.
