Elon Musk & Kathy Bates: Complete Timeline of the Biopic Buzz and Viral Jokes
Q1: Was Kathy Bates ever officially considered for the A24 Elon Musk movie?
A1: No. The suggestion originated entirely as an internet joke and viral fan-casting meme following the announcement of the Darren Aronofsky-directed project. Neither A24 nor Aronofsky ever approached Bates for the role.
Q2: Why did the side-by-side photo comparison of Musk and Bates go viral?
A2: The image went viral due to an undeniable structural facial similarity in candid photographs, specifically their shared jawlines, expressions, and eye shapes, paired with the comedic dissonance of casting an acclaimed senior actress as a controversial tech mogul.
Q3: How does Stephen King's Annie Wilkes figure into the meme?
A3: Kathy Bates won an Academy Award for playing Annie Wilkes in the 1990 horror film Misery. Social media users drew humorous parallels between Wilkes's volatile, obsessive behavior and Musk's impulsive social media posting habits and management style.
Q4: Who is directing the official Elon Musk biopic, and what book is it based on?
A4: The film is being produced by independent studio A24 and directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, adapting Walter Isaacson's 2023 authorized biography Elon Musk.
