Everything You Need to Know About Levi Chrisopulos as Nico Di Angelo in Season 3
Portraying Nico di Angelo requires navigating a psychological transformation rare for young actors. In literature, Nico begins as comic relief, a chatterbox asking whether Hades has a 5,000-attack-power card or if Dionysus turns people into actual soda cans. He is sheltered, having spent decades frozen in time at the Lotus Hotel and Casino with Bianca before being dumped into modern boarding schools.
When Bianca dies in the Talos junkyard, Nico’s psyche fractures. Chrisopulos faces the task of executing that turning point:
- Bianca was Nico's only constant through chronological displacement. Her absence leaves him entirely unprotected.
- Percy’s failure to bring Bianca back creates an immediate, searing rift. Nico throws away the lead Hades Mythomagic figurine, the singular toy Percy recovered for him.
- The earth cracks, skeletal warriors are banished to the underworld, and Nico realizes his true divine heritage as a Son of Hades.
Chrisopulos must communicate profound terror during this sequence. Nico does not become powerful and smug; he becomes powerful and horrified by what he is. He flees Camp Half-Blood into the woods, initiating months of wandering alone through graveyard shadows and Underworld caverns.
