Fact Check: Do You Have to Be 21 to Eat at Ojos Locos Sports Cantina?
State alcohol beverage regulations dictate physical separation between drinkers and minors inside mixed-beverage establishments. Under Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) rules and similar statutory codes in California and Nevada, anyone seated within the designated perimeter of the primary dispensing bar must be at least 21 years old.
This creates a distinct line inside the cantina. A 19-year-old dining with their 22-year-old sibling can share a platter of wings at a dining room booth at 6:00 PM. That same 19-year-old cannot sit on a bar stool at the counter, even if they explicitly order water.
Ojos Locos is famous for dispensing signature 100-ounce beer tubes (known colloquially as balones). Table servers monitor these communal alcohol vessels with strict compliance protocols. If a group ordering a beer tower includes any guest who cannot produce a valid 21+ ID, the server will either refuse the tower outright or clear all empty beer glasses from the underage guest's reaching area. Violating these rules exposes franchises to heavy civil fines, suspension of mixed beverage permits, or complete liquor license revocation.
