When Ron Shelton cast Hardison in White Men Can't Jump in 1992, critics expected a carbon copy of his television persona. Hardison deliberately went in the opposite direction, bringing sharp comedic timing to playground basketball courts opposite Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. The film confirmed his box-office viability outside of network primetime parameters.
