Fetty Wap Eye History: from Childhood Diagnosis to 2026 Early Prison Release
Maxwell was not injured in street violence. He was born on June 7, 1991, in Paterson, New Jersey, and within months of his birth, his parents noticed abnormal cloudiness and excessive tearing in his eyes. Physicians quickly diagnosed him with congenital glaucoma, an uncommon condition affecting roughly one in every 10,000 live births in the United States.
Congenital glaucoma occurs when the eye’s fluid drainage channels fail to develop correctly during gestation. Intraocular pressure spikes dramatically. Without immediate intervention, this pressure crushes delicate optic nerve fibers and stretches the infant eye tissue. Maxwell underwent urgent pediatric glaucoma surgery during infancy. Surgeons successfully relieved the intraocular pressure in his right eye, preserving his vision. His left eye, however, sustained irreversible optic nerve damage, resulting in total left eye vision loss.
Because the damaged eye could not be salvaged functionally or cosmetically, physicians removed the non-viable tissue and fitted the young boy with an ocular prosthesis. For years, medical folklore ran rampant online, but Maxwell set the record straight during a 2015 radio interview with DJ Self on Shade 45, explaining plainly that high ocular pressure simply destroyed the eye before he ever formed a conscious memory.
