Four Brothers Movie Cast Guide: Characters, Actors, and Trivia Explained
The emotional backbone of the 2005 release rests on the contrast among four brothers raised by a saintly neighborhood matriarch who took in boys no one else wanted. Each sibling brought a distinctly volatile energy to the family dinner table.
Mark Wahlberg starred as Bobby Mercer, the eldest, most hot-tempered brother. Fresh off mid-career dramatic milestones and action turns, Wahlberg played Bobby as a hyper-aggressive hockey enforcer turned street brawler. Driven by guilt over his prolonged absence from Detroit, Bobby serves as the violent engine of the group's revenge quest, unwilling to wait for police bureaucracy to resolve his mother's murder.
Tyrese Gibson took on the role of Angel Mercer, a charismatic ex-military ladies' man with sharp tactical instincts. Gibson, who had previously collaborated with Singleton on the 2001 breakout Baby Boy, brought effortless swagger mixed with genuine vulnerability. Angel balances Bobby's reckless rage with military discipline and calculated charm, forming the tactical center of their vigilante operations.
André Benjamin (Outkast's André 3000) played Jeremiah Mercer, the only brother who stayed behind to build a traditional domestic life. Jeremiah became a suburban family man and small-business contractor, trying desperately to run an honest enterprise in a city plagued by economic rot. Benjamin delivered an understated, grounded performance, portraying a man torn between legal legitimacy and blood loyalty.
Garrett Hedlund completed the quartet as Jack Mercer, the youngest, sensitive rock-musician sibling. Hedlund, who caught Hollywood's attention a year prior in Friday Night Lights and Troy, infused Jack with raw youthfulness. Despite being visibly less hardened than his older brothers, Jack's eagerness to prove his toughness creates some of the film's most heartbreaking emotional stakes.
