How to Remove a Blink Doorbell in 60 Seconds: Safe Battery Swap and Reset Walkthrough
Once the doorbell is off the wall, you gain access to the rear compartment. If your objective is a routine battery replacement, twist or pop the rear battery cover off the casing. Blink units require strictly non-rechargeable AA 1.5V lithium batteries, specifically Energizer Ultimate Lithium or manufacturer-certified equivalents. Alkaline cells, rechargeable NiMH packs, and lithium-ion 3.7V cells will trigger low-voltage errors, fail under freezing winter conditions, or permanently fry the internal circuit board.
If your installation is wired directly to an existing mechanical chime, you will see two hardwire terminal screws running from the transformer through the center channel of the backplate. The doorbell unclips without loosening these screws because electrical contact is maintained via flat pressure pads on the rear housing. If you need a total chime bracket detachment to replace the baseplate or repaint the wall, turn off power at your breaker box first. Loosen the terminal screws with a standard Phillips #1 screwdriver, pull the copper wiring clear, and remove the two anchoring wall screws holding the backplate to the doorframe.
For persistent connection errors, inspect the back of the camera module. The reset button location sits directly above the battery compartment. With fresh lithium cells installed, hold this button down with your paperclip for roughly 15 to 30 seconds until the front LED flashes red, initiating factory recovery mode.
