Inside Anaheim Gardenwalk: a Look at the Best Restaurants, Art, and Nightlife Hotspots
When Anaheim GardenWalk opened to the public in 2008, commercial developers aimed for high-end boutique shopping. High vacancy rates challenged that vision during the subsequent recession. National retail chains struggled to pull pedestrian traffic across Harbor Boulevard, where tourists rarely lingered without ticketed attractions. The property adjusted by completely overhauling its leasing architecture toward food, beverage, and group activities.
City planners recognized that the Anaheim Resort district required social infrastructure that could absorb tens of thousands of evening visitors leaving trade shows or finishing day passes at California Adventure. By pivoting toward food halls, immersive escape games, and craft cocktail destinations, GardenWalk established an active night-time economy that operates outside the Disney gate system.
