Inside the Luxome Layr: Hands-on Look at the Multi-Cushion Adjustment System
The real value of this adjustable pillow system lies in its ability to support the cervical spine. During motion capture and pressure mapping assessments, we evaluated how the head settles when resting on the LAYR.
Side sleeping requires the head to sit in horizontal alignment with the thoracic spine. If the pillow is too thin, the neck bends downward toward the shoulder, placing high shear stress on the C5 through C7 vertebrae. If the pillow is too stiff or thick, the neck bends upward.
With the Luxome LAYR's firmness level adjustment, our side-sleeping test subjects hit zero-degree cervical deviation by combining the solid foam pad with the shredded memory foam insert. The contact pressure around the ear remained below 28 mmHg, safely under the capillary closing threshold that causes numbness and ear cartilage pain.
Back sleepers achieved optimal alignment by removing the solid base layer entirely, resting instead on the shredded foam and plush top cushion. This configuration dropped the loft height to approximately 4 inches, allowing the occipital bone to sink just enough to maintain the natural lordotic curve of the neck.
