Because Duren lacked a former pro athlete at home to break down film, Jack entrusted his development to specific basketball programs known for rigorous coaching. His first major test came at Roman Catholic High School in Center City Philadelphia. Under head coach Matt Griffin, Duren was held to the exact same academic and defensive standards as the team's walk-ons. He led the Cahillites to consecutive Philadelphia Catholic League titles, learning to operate within high-pressure scholastic environments.

By 2020, his talent outgrew local competition. To prepare for elite college competition and eventual professional life, Jack orchestrated his transfer to Montverde Academy in Florida. Montverde, led by legendary coach Kevin Boyle, operates as a de facto professional academy. Boyle has developed NBA stars like Kyrie Irving, Ben Simmons, and Cade Cunningham. At Montverde, Duren was not allowed to coast on size alone; he was drilled in drop-coverage pick-and-roll defense, screening angles, and locker room professionalism.
