Janna Kiraly by Karch's Side: Rare Glimpses and Courtside Moments Across Four Decades
When the Kiraly family settled in San Clemente, California, they made a conscious decision to give their children an ordinary upbringing. Karch was a household name in Orange County, regularly swarmed by fans whenever he walked onto a public beach. Inside their home, however, sports never eclipsed family life.
Their sons, Kristian and Kory Kiraly, grew up with volleyball in the background rather than down their throats. Both boys pursued their own educational and athletic paths, attending St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano. Karch frequently credited Janna with handling the logistics of school schedules, youth practices, and parent-teacher meetings while he traveled to world championships across South America and Asia.
Coaches who worked with the boys during high school noted that Janna never acted like the wife of a sporting icon. She sat with other parents on metal bleachers, brought snacks, and avoided directing traffic. That normalcy protected her sons from the overwhelming shadow of their father's athletic status.
