In this case, that threat takes the form of Ms. Grunion, voiced with delicious cruelty by Allison Janney. She views Peabody's adoption of Sherman not as an act of philanthropy, but as an intolerable biological affront.
Janney gives Grunion an intimidating physical presence through vocal weight alone. Her low, menacing timber and sheer bureaucratic determination drive the film's ticking clock: if Peabody cannot demonstrate absolute domestic stability before dinner ends, Sherman will be removed from his penthouse home and placed into foster custody.
