The Essential Guide to Nadia Gohar: Art, Gohar World, and Her Signature Style
Gohar’s obsessive eye for vanishing fabrication methods quickly pulled her into the orbit of luxury fashion houses. In July 2023, S Magazine joined Gohar during Paris Haute Couture Week for a behind-the-scenes exploration of Chanel’s Métiers d’Art complex, le19M. Central to her visit was Ateliers Lognon, the revered Parisian pleating house operating since 1853.
Inside the workshop, craftspeople steam and manipulate delicate silks between two heavy, hand-folded cardboard molds, a manual technique unchanged for nearly two centuries. For an artist who interrogates tactile surfaces, the visit highlighted shared artistic values. Gohar watched artisans align pleats to fractions of a millimeter, later observing how those surfaces moved down the runway during Chanel’s Fall-Winter Haute Couture presentation along the Seine.
Her relationship with haute couture is structural rather than purely aesthetic. She studies how century-old couture houses preserve vanishing guild crafts through targeted patronage, then applies similar logic to Gohar World. Whether she is commissioning lace from retired seamstresses outside Cairo or contracting hand-beaded ribbon work in Europe, the goal is preservation through viable economic trade.
