Where Are They Now? the Untold Truth Behind the Cast of the Benchwarmers
David Spade played Richie Goodman, a terrified, agoraphobic video store clerk who batted with his eyes closed and spent half the game trying to avoid sunburns. Spade brought his signature deadpan sarcasm to the role, delivering many of the film’s most enduring one-liners.
Spade avoided the slump that often hits comedy stars of his era. He led the successful CBS sitcom Rules of Engagement for seven seasons from 2007 to 2013, headlined Netflix streaming hits such as The Wrong Missy in 2020, and hosted late-night comedy programs. In recent years, Spade conquered digital audio. Alongside fellow Saturday Night Live alumnus Dana Carvey, he co-hosts the massively popular podcast Fly on the Wall, interviewing major entertainment figures and dissecting comedy history. Spade remains an active headliner on the Las Vegas strip, maintaining one of the steadiest working profiles in American comedy.
