Where Is the Pin on a Subway Gift Card? Card Layout and Balance Check Walkthrough
Physical Subway gift cards follow a standardized layout, but subtle variations between print runs confuse many customers. Turn the card over to its matte reverse side. Running across the upper third is the black magnetic stripe. Below that stripe, positioned either toward the center or right edge, sits a distinct rectangular box. Inside or directly beside this designated area, you will find the 16-digit gift card number, grouped in blocks of four digits for easier reading.
Directly to the right of or immediately beneath the primary account number is a small metallic rectangle. This is the scratch-off security code. On factory-fresh cards, an opaque silver or gray protective coating conceals the digits. That concealed string, almost always 4 digits long, is the official Subway gift card PIN location. Use the edge of a coin, a key, or a firm fingernail to gently scrape away this coating. Applying excessive pressure with sharp objects like scissors or knives can tear through the plastic backing, destroying the underlying ink and making the digits illegible.
If you hold a digital voucher instead of a piece of plastic, the layout differs slightly. A digital eGift card balance notice arrives via email containing an embedded graphic. In these electronic receipts, the 16-digit account identifier and the separate PIN appear in plain text just below the visual barcode. You never need to scratch anything off on a smartphone screen; the numeric code displays openly alongside an expiration-free balance confirmation.
