Where to Watch 'The Strange Thing About the Johnsons' and What to Know Beforehand
More than a decade after its release, The Strange Thing About the Johnsons commands attention because it refuses to soften its subject matter. By subverting traditional cinematic dynamics of power and victimization, Aster created a thesis film that functions as an endurance test for viewers.
The project established the blueprint for Aster's trajectory: unflinching technical control, complete commitment from his actors, and an obsession with familial rot. For viewers seeking to understand the roots of modern psychological horror, tracking down this half-hour short remains essential context for understanding one of contemporary cinema's most provocative directors.
