Who Played the Cockroach Guy in Mib? the Extreme Agony Behind Vincent D'onofrio's Cult Role
Q1: Who played the cockroach alien Edgar in the original Men in Black?
A1: Edgar the Bug was played by American character actor Vincent D'Onofrio, best known for his roles in *Full Metal Jacket*, *Law & Order: Criminal Intent*, and as Kingpin in Marvel's *Daredevil*.
Q2: Did Vincent D'Onofrio really wear leg braces to walk like a bug?
A2: Yes. D'Onofrio bought medical leg braces and locked the hinges to keep his knees from bending. Combined with tightly wrapped sports tape around his ankles, the setup forced him to swing his legs stiffly from the hip to mimic insect locomotion.
Q3: How long did the Edgar makeup take to apply each day?
A3: Legendary makeup artist Rick Baker spent between 4.5 and 6 hours each filming day applying the silicone, foam latex, and mechanical flesh-pulling systems to D'Onofrio's face and neck.
Q4: What was Edgar actually drinking in the sugar water scene?
A4: Production crews mixed real granulated sugar with warm water to create a heavy, syrupy concentrate. D'Onofrio consumed multiple full glasses of the mixture during various camera angles.
