Why Millions Mistakenly Think Eggs Are Dairy: the Grocery Aisle Myth Exposed
From an anatomical standpoint, the line dividing dairy from eggs is absolute. True dairy products originate exclusively from mammal lactation. Female mammals develop specialized mammary glands that synthesize milk rich in fats, immunoglobulins, and the disaccharide sugar known as lactose. This fluid exists solely to nourish newborn offspring during early mammalian development, whether the species is a cow, goat, sheep, water buffalo, or camel.
Poultry operates on a completely disconnected reproductive path. A hen produces an egg through its oviduct as part of an avian reproductive cycle. The egg white (albumen) and yolk develop inside the bird's internal tract without any connection to milk-producing glands or lactation hormones. Calling an egg a dairy product makes no more biological sense than calling a chicken drumstick a cut of beef. An egg is fundamentally an animal reproductive cell and an agricultural poultry byproduct, standing as far apart from bovine milk as an apple stands from a potato.
